The Olsen’s family has deep roots in Northern Arizona dating back to the early 1950s. This year, Olsen’s Grain celebrates 40 years of serving Northern Arizona as it’s family-owned, premier feed and pet supply store. The family-owned business started selling livestock and pet feed in Chino Valley, Arizona in 1979.  Mike and Sherrill Olsen, with help from his parents John and Ann Olsen,  purchased the Chino Valley Grain Company and Mill. Chino Valley Grain Company & Mill dates back to the 1940s. Steve Sischka and wife Kathy (Olsen) joined the business in 1980.  Dan Olsen and wife Barb joined the company in 1982. Since 1979, much has changed.  The Prescott location opened in 1980, followed by the Dewey store in 1982. The Flagstaff located opened in 1997, and Clarkdale in 2001.

One thing that hasn’t changed in the past 40 years is Olsen’s mission. We strive to provide knowledge, service, and products that promote the optimum health of animals. We do this in such a way that the customers’ experience exceeds expectations. Exceeding customers expectations is woven throughout every aspect of the company. Our purpose has always remained the same, the health of your animals. 

In the early 2000s, owner Steve Sischka was passing by the Mile High Middle School football field in Prescott, AZ.  Steve saw an inspirational quote, “doing just good enough, shouldn’t ever be good enough.” Steve thought “that’s us!” This was the beginning of Olsen’s trademark “Good Enough, Just Isn’t.” “We strive for this every day,” Steve Sischka says.

“To me, all the glory and honor for the success of Olsen’s goes to God,” says Dan Olsen. “Our family’s committed to follow His teachings and to do business His way. God’s second greatest commandment is to “love your neighbor as yourself.” I believe our success is a blessing from God.  We try to treat every customer with love and respect. Treating our customers the way we want to be treated. We have worked long and hard for 40 years.  New products and technology have kept us evolving. But our ultimate success comes from God who has given us strong, committed, dedicated employees.  Our employees help us exceed the expectations of our customers. They create a joyful experience for them each time they step through the doors of an Olsen’s store. As long as we continue to do business God’s way, we will always be successful!”       

For the past 40 years, Olsen’s has played a big part in the communities they serve.  This is near and dear to the heart of the company. “Thanks to the hard work and commitment of our team, I believe our success has come through dedication to our communities and customers,” Mike Olsen says. On any given weekend you’ll find an Olsen’s sponsored community event or an event happening at one of the stores. Through dedication to the communities, Olsen’s was awarded the “Checker Up America” community leadership award by Purina Mills. “Our support and involvement in many different organizations while providing the products and knowledge for people to live a healthy animal lifestyle has made us who we are today,” says Mike Olsen.  

Yes, there have been many changes in the past 40 years. However, the commitment to provide the best products and service to our communities, families, and animals has remained constant. As Olsen’s Grain celebrates 40 Years of serving Northern Arizona we thank you for allowing us to serve you. Whatever the future holds, our core values will remain the same.
